Panic in the Locker Room!
Frank Bruni's Panic in the Locker Room! engages the reader into a surprising conversation about openly gay players within professional sports. He starts off the column saying "A news flash for every straight man out there. You've been naked in front of a gay man". This sentence should be life altering to any straight man on any face of the earth. He draws the reader in by starting the column off with that life stopping, jarring statement. He continues with this topic until the 3 paragraph. He then goes into the story of Michael Sam, who is a college football star who is soon to be drafted into the NFL (National Football League). Sam came out, on ESPN and The Times by John Branch, about who he was gay. Most of he response was positive, hover, he did this knowing he would get negative feedback from anyone. "It's chemically imbalance an NFL locker room," said an anonymous personnel assistant (for the NFL). He then goes into how these big, strong football players can handle being tackled by other football players twice their size, yet they can't handle "a homosexual under a nearby nozzle". Bruni wraps up his argument by stating "The person who raises that fear, Amaechi said, 'is a bigot finally falling over the cliff and grasping for any straw that might keep their purchase. When every rational argument is gone, you go with that.'"
